Exactly a month ago, the air was filled with a mix of nostalgia and anticipation. Not only was it the last day of the year, but the last day of the decade. December 31, 2019 came to life and ceased to be in the blink of an eye; just like the entire year, the previous one, the one before, and so on.
The day danced its way around the clock, twirling its golden ribbon in the air from one side of the horizon to the other. Pupils were ablaze, filled with hope for the future; hearts internally sorting through boxes and boxes of memories.
As the night progressed and good wishes were professed, people grew merrier and merrier. The end of an “era” had come, and so the beginning of another. Everyone was busy setting goals and making plans, new year’s resolutions were in order around every corner.
Goodbye past, hello present!
We are closing today the first chapter of twelve on our books titled 2020, so I’d like to share a few words with you.
There is a quote by one of my favorite authors that says :
“ We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history”- Ellen G. White
Looking back on this first month of this year we could probably say: “how intense!” Devastating fires, persistent earthquakes, and scary viruses all around the world! And rumors of war? what is going on?!
Great news, the second coming of Jesus is fast approaching, that’s what’s going on.
So, as we look ahead into the remaining eleven months of this year, I’d like to ask you to do two things:
- Don’t allow chronophobia (fear of the future) get in the way of your plans. Walk forward in faith knowing that you serve a powerful God who is in control of all things. (Matthew 6:34)
- Do not let mnemophobia (fear of the past) steal your peace. Remember that the same powerful God you serve is also your loving, forgiving father. (Micah 7:19)
Like the Apostle Paul said:
“… Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14
