It’s the beginning of a new year! We are at the start of a new book, with blank, crispy pages, fresh smell, and all; how exciting, right?! Last year was a year of new, beautiful things and challenges for me. This year is coming with new goals, blessings, and responsibilities. While it’s all very exciting, it also makes me a little anxious to find a way to organize myself in the best possible way while keeping Jesus as my top priority.
As I process all these mixed feelings, an old saying my college professors used to say comes to mind: “The only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.”
So, for today’s devotional, I want to share with you some tips for managing your time effectively and keeping Jesus as your number one:
Start your day with God
My biggest recommendation is to set a specific time and stick to it. Whether you decide on ten minutes, fifteen, or thirty, it varies from lifestyle to lifestyle. However, what matters the most is having your time with God at the top of your priorities.
Set clear priorities
My planner is one thing I cannot go without. Writing down your list of things to do and dividing into “must” and “should’ can be helpful. Doing it the night before is even better. It will significantly decrease your stress levels and make your life much easier.
Use time blocks
Organizing your to-do list by time blocks is also helpful. Grouping tasks will make them more manageable. This will allow you to plan your downtime and rest more efficiently and, of course, keep you focused.
Learn to say “no”
If you struggle saying “no,” this is the year to start learning how to do it. While feeling useful, productive, and helpful is nice, you must remember that you are only human. When you’ve already got a full plate, and something else comes your way, ask yourself: “Does it have to be done right away?” “Am I the only one who can do it?” “Can it be a shared responsibility?”
Rest in His presence
Part of managing your time wisely is scheduling time for rest. Think of it as investing in your productivity. The more productive you want to be, the more intentional you must be about setting aside time to rest and respecting it. Jesus rested and renewed His strength through quality time with His Father. God knew what He was doing when He gave us a special day of the week to renew our strength! Exodus : 20:8-11
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33
