Time for a reset

Reset. When we think about making changes in life, January 1st feels like the perfect moment to start over. It’s the season of fresh goals: eating healthier, exercising more, becoming organized, and going to bed earlier. December 31st often sounds like, “today is the last day I do this or eat that,” as we promise ourselves that change will begin tomorrow.

But here’s the question worth asking: do our resets really need to wait for January 1st?

We’ve been conditioned to believe that transformation requires a prior appointment or calendar change, when in reality, alignment doesn’t wait for a date, it responds to awareness.

An instant reset

King Josiah didn’t schedule a reset for later. He responded immediately.

Ascending to the throne at a young age, Josiah relied heavily on his advisors. During temple repair, the Book of the Law was found and read aloud to him. As Josiah listened, he realized how far the nation had drifted from God’s commands. His response was not denial or delay. He didn’t look for space in his agenda for repentance, didn’t wait for public approval, and didn’t postpone change until a more convenient season. Right there and then, he tore his clothes in repentance and moved quickly to restore order.

Josiah understood something we often forget when God reveals misalignment, a reset is necessary. Not tomorrow. Not next year. Today.

Is there an area of your life that feels out of order, something the Lord has been gently bringing to your attention?

The moment Is now

The best version of you is not the one you were, nor the one you hope to become someday, it’s the one you are today. This is the version of you that can choose, respond, and surrender. The past is gone, and the future is never guaranteed. But today? Today is yours.

As we step into this new year, don’t feel pressured to change everything at once. Instead, come to Jesus honestly and courageously. Ask Him to help you make the small adjustments only you and He know you need to make. Grace-filled, Spirit-led, one step at a time.

You don’t need a perfect plan to begin, just a willing heart.

“Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I have spoken… and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I also have heard you,” declares the LORD.
2 Kings 22:19 (NIV)
