Do you ever take a moment to stop and think about the little things in life? The pebbles you kick when you take a walk? the beautiful flowers that bloom along the side walk? or the big white cotton candy-like clouds in the sky?
Do you live in a place with nice fresh air? If so, do you realize how blessed you are? Not everyone enjoys such privilege after all. In some places the air is so polluted that you need to wear a mask! Do you live in a country with peace? Not everyone does. For some people, the certainty of waking up to see the light of another day has long been robbed by the sinister claws of war.
Do you tend to count your blessings? Or do you tend to count your sorrows?
When we focus on counting our sorrows, we easily lose track of our blessings. Sometimes we even complain when we have to eat the same thing twice in a row! Meanwhile, there are some who don’t even have a piece of bread to put in their mouths!
You would be surprised by the amount of people who lack potable water, let alone the appropriate health resources and information on basic health principles such as the importance of hand washing!
If you are reading this, I will safely assume, that it is highly likely that most of the issues I mentioned are not issues you face on a daily basis.
It is important to be grateful for the things we have; and as cliché as it may sound, it is important that we learn to see the cup as half full rather than half empty. Consciously maintaining a grateful attitude isn’t always easy. Sometimes it is easier to just drown in a cup of water!
However, the Bible reminds us of our duty to remain grateful at all times:
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV
The Bible is filled with beautiful promises. Promises for you and for me. All we have to do is claim them!
God has promised to take care of you, and you can rest assured in the promise that He will provide.
“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”
–Psalm 37:25 NIV
