Yes society, I’m a millennial, and I will not give you the right to control my life. I am not about to let you define my standards by your idea of “what’s normal and acceptable”.
No, I am not seeking to fit in your little generational mold, why? because I am here for more than that.
I am the Daniel that chooses to stay true to his principles when away from home ( Daniel 1:8). My judgement is not based upon what my parents told me was right, but solely on what the Bible says is right.
At the sight of temptation, like Joseph I run (Genesis 39:12). Not because I am a coward, but because I am strong.
You can call me the Esther of this generation because I am not afraid to risk my life for what is right. (Esther 4:16)
Like David, I don’t hesitate to face the giants of this life. Not because I “believe in myself” but because I know in whom I have believed. (1 Sam. 17:26,37)
I am the Ruth that chooses a life after God over a life of idolatry. (Ruth 1:16)
Just like Moses, I refuse to succumb to the cultural pressure that bombards me. (Exodus. 2:10,32:19)
That’s right, I am the Samuel who is not afraid to answer the call of God. (1 Sam. 3:10)
Having commitment issues, being self-entitled, promiscuous, irresponsible, and having a general aversion to religious matters is what’s considered “normal” for a millennial like me.
I know, yet I refuse to fit in the mold. I want more than what this world has to offer.
Ultimate freedom is my goal. And I know that true freedom comes from respecting the law, and as a fruit of the personal relationship I have with the God of the law.
I am the millennial who is not afraid to commit to love. I know that Love already gave it all for me at the cross.
My beliefs are not for sale, society. Not today, not ever.
Compromising who I am just because the crowd says it’s okay to do so is not an option.
I’m not seeking to fit in. I’d rather stick out.
I am a Millennial… but I refuse to conform.
