Real Talk

“God is not a magic box that you can take out whenever you need something”. This is something I’ve heard many preachers say. And yes, it is true, I get it. Just imagine you have a friend that whenever you talk to each other all you do is ask for something. After a while, your friend will get tired of it and question your friendship. Isn’t it true? Don’t get me wrong. The other day, as I was talking to God and meditating on this, I got an insight. Sometimes when you talk to God, or to a friend, it’s not uncommon to ask for something you need.

But had you noticed that that the very fact of asking God, or a friend for something, implies that you are opening your heart to them? Sometimes, it’s not so much the need you have for what you are asking for, as the need you have for a listening ear, as the need you have to just tell someone about your struggles.

Allow me to share with you a personal theory of mine.  I think that in the beginning God knew that we would go to Him for help. He knew that we would come to Him and ask for Him to supply our needs. But, He also knew that through the very act of asking, we would allow Him to become closer to us, and we would be able to develop a strong and amazing relationship with Him. Because, you see, when you share your struggles with someone, intimacy develops and a bond is crated between you and that other person.

“And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” -1 John 5:15

Because of sin, we are not worthy of anything. We are not worthy of talking to the one true God almighty, much less of asking Him for something!. Yet it is because of His infinitely amazing love, and through His sacrifice on the cross, that we own that privilege.

I am glad to know that when I am struggling I can go to someone that is happy to hear about my struggles. When we talk to God, it is us who are mostly blessed.

If there is someone that will make you feel better after you speak with Him, is God.

Try it out you won’t regret it.
