Dating as a Christian can feel like walking blindfolded through a burning maze—complex, dangerous, and overwhelming. If you’ve ever felt like this, it’s understandable. Navigating a world with misguided standards is challenging but not impossible. The good news? While dating may feel like a burning maze, walking through it blindfolded is up to us.
We live in the age of red flags, and learning to recognize them is crucial. But just as important is learning to spot green flags—signs of a relationship that honors God. Here are seven dating green flags:
They love God more than they love you
A partner who genuinely prioritizes their relationship with God is a gift. Their love for Him is evident in their choices, conversations, and character. If they love God first, they will love you well. —Matthew 6:33
They lead you closer to Christ
Do they encourage your walk with God? Do they pray with you, study Scripture, and challenge you spiritually? A healthy partner strengthens your faith, not weakens it. —Proverbs 27:17
They practice humility and forgiveness
No one is perfect, but a humble, teachable, and forgiving partner reflects Christ’s heart. They don’t let pride hinder reconciliation. —Ephesians 4:2
They show consistency and integrity
Integrity is about daily choices. A person of integrity keeps their word, honors commitments, and respects others—even when no one is watching. Their actions match their words. —Proverbs 11:3
They handle conflict the Jesus way
Disagreements are inevitable, but how they handle them matters. Do they respond with patience and kindness or lash out in anger? A partner who listens seeks peace, and remains calm is a blessing. —Proverbs 15:1
They honor purity and boundaries
A godly relationship values biblical principles. A partner who respects physical, emotional, and spiritual boundaries demonstrates self-control and a love rooted in Christ. —Psalm 119:9
They remind you of 1 Corinthians 13
1 Corinthians 13 defines love as being patient and kind, not self-seeking. No one is perfect, but do their words and actions reflect godly love or the world’s cheap version?
A green flag relationship isn’t about perfection but pursuit—a pursuit of Christ, holiness, and love that reflects Him. Do any of these green flags strike a chord within? Expecting the same as what you are willing to offer is only fair.
If you’re dating, pray and seek wisdom. If you’re waiting, trust God’s timing. A relationship centered on Jesus is always worth it.
