Let’s talk about love. What is love? Many people struggle with this concept, and it seems that the more we overuse the word love, the more it loses its meaning.
In a world with so much hurt and chaos everywhere, is it possible to love and to be loved? Absolutely! God has given us the capacity to love. But only as long as we remain connected to Him, because God is the one true fountain of love.
1 John 3:16-18 says:
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
I have come to the conclusion that if God is love and we are His sons and daughters then we can and should reflect his character. In the same way we resemble our parents, or in the same way an old couple starts to resemble each other after a while.
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
1 John 4:7
You see? We are able to love because He is love. And when you know Him you can’t help reflecting His love.
If love -true love that is- is something that doesn’t naturally happen in humans, why does the Bible talk so much about it? For that very reason, to point us to the Essence of love, God. The same God who loves you not matter what.
You too can love people with this kind of unconditional love. All you got to do is accept Jesus into your heart, stay connected to Him, and let it flow.
